It will cast medium and large lures with the best of them, and just as importantly crank them back with the muscle and smoothness required for maximum effect. Light in weight, with a reputation for toughness, it’s the perfect foundation for Shimano’s high quality build quality, which is further backed up by the inclusion of a machined aluminium spool. Even the handle is machined from aluminium. When they designed Cardiff, weakness certainly wasn’t going to be a factor. Casting is controlled by Shimano VBS (Variable Brake System), which can be adjusted to suit your lure size, conditions and casting style. The smallest 201A is the most versatile caster and will handle light-medium to large lures; the 301A is a perfect large lure compromise; whilst the 401A really comes into its own with the very largest lures.
